What is the ultimate driving song?
Current Mood: curiouscurious
Current Music: I can't tell you without skewing the question....

Who's version of each? Why?

Depends on who's driving.

KatVixen made her own roadtrip cd for last time she had to drive to Denver (and she forgot it this time...) - she also made one for me, and yes, we had a few things in common on them.
If you had gone on that roadtrip *guilt guilt* with me, you'd have had the chance to comment on what I put on mine...

What's important to your driving? Staying awake, keeping speed down, keeping energy up (as in "not responsible for any tickets while under music's influence"), keeping boredom away, concentration, distraction?

No, what song do you consider to be the ultimate driving song for you under average conditions....

Err a song to sing in a car or a car song? I love Beach Boy's California Girls and American Pie
Car songs it would be The Convoy Song or On The Road Again
Frittersfritters on June 29th, 2005 05:45 pm (UTC)
Do you particularly enjoy driving while listening to convoy?

Travoltas - Monstertrucks :D

Heck, the whole Travoltas "Baja California" album would qualify as an excellent choice
Frittersfritters on June 29th, 2005 05:59 pm (UTC)
Interesting answer! I may download some!

Lo Fidelity All Stars - Battle Flag.

You will feel like the authority on the road. It's also what I affectionately call my "2 Miles Per Hour Song" since when I first heard it, my friend Emily cranked it up and slowly coasted through a busy intersection whilst pissing a lot of people off. When the lights began to change, did she care? HELL NO! It was wonderful. XD

That sounds fantastic, I need to hear that! Thanks!

Depends on what stage of my trip I'm at. Early on, I like anything by Aqua, but when I get to Sparwood, on the way home, I like stuff by Mike Oldfield, or Celtic music.

There's also the Head Sticky song (no idea what it's called) and Pipe Dreamz... :D
Robyn Goodfellowrobyngoodfellow on June 30th, 2005 02:31 am (UTC)
It's called "Can't turn you loose" and it's the Blues Brothers' theme.

Radar Love by Golden Earring.

Interesting choice....

Are there any songs that really make you wanna drive?

Green Machine by Kyuss
propulsive sludge guitars stoner rock.

Thunder Kiss '65 by White Zombie or Black Sunshine off the same album. Black Sunshine has the great Iggy Pop vocals but Thunder Kiss has the better thrash

Jesus Built My Hotrod by Ministry. The extended version of course, with the extra Gibby Haynes intro.

Buzzbomb by The Dead Kennedys. cuz it's about going crazy driving a car across Nevada at 110. "Sign says 'Next Sign 30 Miles'".

I think I gave you my road mix mp3 cd when I gave you my mp3 player. Check out the tracks on that. :)

Alas, I have multiple driving songs... lots and lots of 'em. I cater the music to where I'm headed, y'see.

the Truck Driving Song by Weird Al. Of course, me being weird, I listen to Radio Disney if I can. And if I can't I pop in a random CD. Just not certain classical ones, since I don't want to fall asleep at the wheel.

Never heard that one, it sounds like something for me to check out...

Autobaun by Kraftwerk is the ultimate for freeway driving. It makes the miles fly by, and it feels like you are going faster than you really are. I don't know if they still sell it, if you find out, let me know, I need to get the cd.
lironesslironess on June 30th, 2005 03:04 am (UTC)
The whole album, not just one song.

I have a few favorites. Tbe 'Blue light specials' (aka, the song that makes the flashing blue lights appear in your rear-view) are Pipe Dreamz, Can't Turn You Loose, and, for some reason... The Perry Mason Theme.
Songs I like to listen to on long drives include Letters to Cleo's Want You To Want Me, and Cruel To Be Kind, some of Mercedes Lackey's songs (Dark Lover, Midsummer, Threes) and when I'm getting tired, I usually put in the Buffy soundtrack (movie or season1) or the Muppets From Space Soundtrack.

But of course, I think the ultimate driving song, at least the one that makes me exceed the speedlimit, is Born to Be Wild.
"Get your motor runnin', get out on the highway..."
Fritters: Ed Stars by Frittersfritters on June 30th, 2005 05:49 am (UTC)
Thanks!! Blue light specials were what I was particularly after. All good answers! I'm surprised no one has answered with what mine is, though. I thought it was pretty ultimate.....
jaydarkson on July 2nd, 2005 12:12 pm (UTC)
wouldn't say it was the "ultimate" but it does make me feel better when I drive... Tom Cochran's "Life is a Highway".
Fritters: Ed Nodding by Frittersfritters on July 2nd, 2005 05:45 pm (UTC)
Good to know! Another I should look up.
