This seems like a spazzychic post....
In front of you are seven flasks, each with a name of one of the seven virtues. Each flask is full. Which would you drink and how much of it? You have no idea how potent each potion is, but you're pretty sure they'll all work. And remember, it IS possible to have too much of one thing and become imbalanced in an area. The seven virtues and meanings are...

1. Faith - belief in the right things (including the virtues!).
2. Hope - taking a positive future view, that good will prevail.
3. Charity - concern for, and active helping of, others.
4. Fortitude - never giving up.
5. Justice - being fair and equitable with others.
6. Prudence - care of and moderation with money.
7. Temperance - moderation of needed things and abstinence from things which are not needed.

For the sake of argument and to keep things in the right spirit, let's say that you're being chased and only have time to drink from one and can't carry any more or drop anything you're carrying. you can drink from ONE flask. Which one and how much do you drink, knowing that you can't gauge how powerful it is?

Hope or fortitude - can't decide which, but I'm leaning towards hope because one can never have too much hope for one's future.

But it wouldn't be much; just a tiny, tiny sip. Enough to wet my mouth and to keep me on my way... or to help me on my way.

So probably a tiny sip of hope?
lironesslironess on October 19th, 2005 06:25 am (UTC)
Definitely hope, half a flask. Without hope, there is nothing. Or maybe I have watched too many movies......
Fritters: Ed Resting by Frittersfritters on October 19th, 2005 06:48 am (UTC)
I like that answer. I was about to drink the hope, but changed my mind at the last minute, but I still went with half a flask.... And I chose fortitude, I figured without fortitude, hope alone won't get you anywhere...

Faith, Hope? Got plenty; (thanx mom.)
Charity, Justice? Fairly decent on that...
Prudence, Temperance - in moderation only...

Yeah, I think Fortitude is pick of the litter - like I still maintain that Lust is the pick of the sin litter (hmmm, they Do go together, don't they?)

OwlDragonowldragon1 on October 19th, 2005 07:54 am (UTC)
Lust is definitely the one I find most tolerable overall, until it gets to extremes anyway. I used to think Pride was ok, until I saw that one get harmful also. So now I prefer humility to pride (besides, being overly humble gets more positive attention than pride ever does).

Now, Greed... Greed I like, but I have none. I like it because I think if I had just a little, it would motivate me to get more money, which would fix a lot of the depressing mess my life's pretty much always been. Yeah, Greed gets out of control too, but a little sounds healthy, as long as I don't hurt too many people too much along the way.

What a beautiful answer!!
AlucarDmilesaroo on October 19th, 2005 12:01 pm (UTC)
Hmm... i dunno if i'd drink one, normally with things like this one would spring out and make me think "ooh that one" but this didnt so i guess i wouldnt drink from any of them, just take one and sell it for lots of money, the hope one, that seems most popular :P

You can't take any... you can't carry anything else and need everything you've got right now.

Interestingly, these aren't quite the same seven virtues used by Lerner and Lowe. Their list:

Courage, Purity, Humility, Honesty, Diligence, Charity, and Fidelity.

And the rest (after addressing each of the seven in turn) of what they have to say about those silly things:

You'll never find a virtue unstatus-ing my quo, or making my Beelzebub-ble burst. Let others take the high road, I will take the low. I cannot wait to rush in where angels fear to go. With all those seven deadly virtues, free and happy little me has not been cursed.

I'd go with faith. I can always have more faith. And I personally, get a lot of my charity, hope, justice, and temperance from my faith. So, that's definitely a bonus.

Good question!
Frittersfritters on October 19th, 2005 04:40 pm (UTC)
Glad you like the question! And you didn't say if you'd drink it all or not. And on choosing faith, don't forget, too much faith can make you close-minded and jihad-like...

I think I'd have to go with Faith. I've got a mountain blocking my view.

You changed yourm ind? I thought you wanted fortitude? And how much of it?
☆ Omega Decay ☆lilmissmilitia on October 20th, 2005 12:01 am (UTC)
Skull down as much faith as I can; I've never known what it is like to have a religeon (although I'm sure thats not the only interpretation of faith ...)

See Serenity. There's an interesting bit about Belief in it, although you could interpret it as faith I suppose.
