By law, gift certificates don't expire here in California.

I was unaware of that! They still SAY they do on them. Good to know!

I don't like giftcards, because then people know how cheap I am. :P

EXACTLY! It's like saying "You are worth exactly this much money to me," as opposed to "Here is something I thought you would like"

I was at the pet store today and the guy in front of me and the cashier were gushing over how SIMPLE and EASY they are and how WONDERFUL they are for uncomplicating everything.

The answer to giftcards is to have a bunch of people chip in together on one. The total can't be traceable to one person's exact valuation, and it's better to redeem than a bunch of little ones.

It still says "we couldn't be bothered to think about what you might like"

Are you trying to make me feel guilty that in my complete lack of being able to think of what to get people this year, I'm about to resort to gift cards? :)

In all seriousness I have just not felt it this season. I don't really want to get them because they are kind of embarrassing, but I just don't know what to do. I wish we were all allowed one year where we could sit it out.

I actually like to receive gift cards though, as long as they are to a store I shop at. I'm apparently too mysterious that people never know what to buy me anyway.
