An ex- of mine used to claim that the little black birds which hopped and fluttered around in Westwood were grackles, but amazingly she was wrong. I think they turned out to be, well, blackbirds.

Earthblood by Keith Laumer and Rosel George Brown has a species of sentient alien called gracyls, pronounced something like "grackles," at least according to one of the characters.

If they're the ones that sometimes sound like overtightened guitar strings being plucked with the iridescent green in their feathers, then they're specifically Brewer's Blackbirds ^_^

I like those guys.

They're not as fun to say as grackle, though.

It's very much like crackle. Or cackle. But somehow just a little bit cooler....

Grackle?

(When we went to drop off Lironess' wild kittens at the old Angel Puss cat rescue place, there was an older cat I nicknamed Grackle... he was trying to meow but it came out "grackl" and it was just adorably gruff and all...)

"Grackle" is a perfectly cromulent word.

The usage of grackle embiggens the smallest man.
