Wednesday in Puerto Rico, in which we see a giant radio telescope.

Current Mood: busybusy

i would absolutely adore having some of those foliage shots as desktop images. Would you mind also linking all of the videos you made? It's easier to live the trip through the video. =) Man that looks like alot of fun. Well, except for the roof leaking, blech!

You are seeing all the decent vids, but all of them would take forever to upload. Next time you're over I'll burn you a disk, okay? Remind me! And which images did you want desktops of? The only one I've got is the leaves closeup so far, but I can easily make ones of the ones you like.
catlyn99catlyn99 on August 15th, 2007 06:01 am (UTC)
Awesome! i'll show you which ones i would like as a desktop image next time i see you as well. =)
Frittersfritters on August 15th, 2007 06:09 am (UTC)
Actually that would be easier with the info beforehand, picture name or caption or such. I can't just transfer them, a lot of them will need cropping and editing and adjusting the light and such and that's hard to do a batch of on the fly. Vids I don't edit, but the pictures were sometimes too dark or washed out...

Oh gotcha, Ill try to compose a list for ya then tomorrow and I will limit the number. Didn't realize it was so much work. =)

It's not a LOT of work, some are already done, I just can't do it on the fly. That's why the posts take so long, I have to go through and edit and resize and adjust all the pictures.

I recognized the radio telescope the instant I saw the picture. It looks like it would be a lot of fun.

We really want to go back to the telescope... or, at least, I do. I want to see it operating (it was shut down for maintenance) and to see building one, the ops center.

Wanna go with us?

Robyn Goodfellow: space hamstersrobyngoodfellow on August 15th, 2007 04:02 pm (UTC)
That would be very cool... although in my experience radio telescopes aren't really that interesting once you get past the dish. The little one near where I used to live just went beep a lot.

Yes, but the one in Arecibo is really, really big. It goes beep in a deep, stentorian tone of voice. Very cool.

Great choice of icon, by the way.

Robyn Goodfellow: herorobyngoodfellow on August 16th, 2007 02:20 am (UTC)
Is it an Issac Hayes beep, or more of a Barry White beep?

Thanks, it was made for me by this fabulous Iconista I know.

No, I'd say it was more of a James Earl Jones beep. Tony Jay, at the very least. Kind of a 'voice of God' beep, but with less heavenly choir and more hydrogen frequency hum.

Robyn Goodfellow: thingyrobyngoodfellow on August 16th, 2007 05:28 am (UTC)
Wow. That's one impressive beep.

And don't even get me started on the machines that went 'ping'...

Robyn Goodfellow: spriterobyngoodfellow on August 17th, 2007 05:30 am (UTC)
Oh ah will surely swoon...
thudpucker: Farscape coffee - by Erniemaythudpucker on August 17th, 2007 07:20 am (UTC)

Sometimes I find Southern Belles in the damnedest places.

Robyn Goodfellow: dancerobyngoodfellow on August 20th, 2007 01:29 am (UTC)
I thought every girl was a Belle at heart?

Although really, I'm about as likely to swoon as you are to put on a hoop-dress and hit on Rhett Butler...

My dad's next-door neighbour is named Rhett. Who names their kid that?

They try to make us breath while wearing a corset, and I figure either of us'd swoon... then rip it off and slug 'em with it.

There are worse names than Rhett - but I'll have to think a while to come up with one.

Great column we've come up with here, isn't it? :)

Frittersfritters on August 15th, 2007 07:57 pm (UTC)
This one didn't go beep. It was neat to know you were in a place where cool stuff was going on though.

BTW, the beach house is cheaper if you split the cost.
Robyn Goodfellow: dragonrobyngoodfellow on August 16th, 2007 02:22 am (UTC)
No beep? Darn.
krystalemerges on August 15th, 2007 05:20 am (UTC)
wow...my experience with Radio Telescopes is the VLA at 7000 ft...what a difference...and in the ground of all things, very cool. Did I see on one of the signs "Cornell" is that the university that is connected with it?

pretty pretty, once again, thanks for sharing...

Yeah, Cornell is on the logo that Michelle got a picture of...

Restaurant at a radiotelescope... so what dishes did they serve?
Frittersfritters on August 15th, 2007 07:39 pm (UTC)
About what you'd expect, nothing out of the ordinary or cool. Sorry.

Future archeologists will find the ruins of that thing and wonder how a rainforest culture could have built it.

Very spooky, very SFnal.

Love them all, now I want to do a photoshoot of me and a bunch of green stuff. The one where Michelle is dissapearing is just too cool, especially with what she was wearing that day. Makes me want to run off into the forest.
