What am I Doing Wrong?
I've got a lot of picture posts coming up, Fillmore/Piru, Old Trappers Statuary, Futurliner, Cats... I've posted some of my artwork and I've posted icons recently. It seems I'm getting a LOT less comments on things. Believe it or not, NO ONE in ALL the communities I posted in commented on ANY of the last icon set, and despite the fact that you're mostly readers I had no comments on my link to manybooks.net, either. I'd think I was posting too much, but I've actually (notwithstanding the last couple days) been posting about normally. Too many pictures? Not enough description? Pictures too small? Too much railing against outside forces lately? Too many links? Boring??

I'm asking because A: You're my friends and I'd like to think if I directly ask why everyone's commenting way less you'll actually tell me and not sugarcoat it and B: This journal isn't just for me, it's for BOTH of us. It's my way of connecting with all my far-flung friends and if you don't feel the need to communicate, it doesn't work for EITHER of us.

*shrug* for my part I tend to reply to things more in my head anyway =/ Which I know isn't helpful for anyone, but I dunno, thats my reason hehe. I'll try to put my words in data format more often =)

And I haven't been clicking on many pictures/vids/etc recently mainly because our internet has been hobbled until the next bill period 'cos we used up all our bandwidth at home =/ I mean I can still check/look at things at work, but it has to be in my breaks kinda thing

Hope that was useful =) *intercontinental-hugs!*

Not really, honestly. What sort of changes would make you reply more?

For me it has been another time of great emo. I love your icons but with my emo life, I am not sure if I had a chance to even look at them. I liked the PR pictures, just did not have much to say. I am not sure what my particular emo was on that day, but I remember it was something.

Some days I only get a chance to scan most of my F list, and hope to remember that there was something that I wanted to see later......

So, it is not you, it is me that has problems right now.

I'm expecting that's what everyone's going to say, though. Regardless of what's going on with you, what can I do to make you more likely to reply?

*shrugs* I just kind of comment when I have something to say.

For the icon set... well I don't watch BSG nor have I ever heard the song... so not really anything to say... and the book website, I haven't really had a chance to look at it yet.

Is there anything I can do, though, to make you more likely to comment?

Sorry, I'm behind on reviewing LJ stuff as my work and after work docket has been fuller than normal.

Please forgive..... (sad puppy eyes)

I know people get busy, just the odds of everyone getting busy at once are a bit low. I'm not trying to get on people's cases, I'd just like to know how I can improve. The best way to improve is to poll the public...

Icons: I thoroughly enjoy your artistic style and abilities, but for the most part, your usericons here derive from things which are of importance to you but which are not among my interests. (Well, I did watch a few episodes of the animated "Teen Titans" a while back, and liked them enough, but not enough to seek them out on a regular basis.)

If you were to create an icon that I liked well enough to use, you can be sure I would do so (and credit you, naturally).

Comments: I'm already a very self-absorbed person, and in addition to that life has been throwing me a more than usual number of challenges lately. I read your posts even when I might not have anything to add to them.

Please don't feel discouraged. You are definitely one of the least boring people I know, and I mean that in a positive way.

You're the second person to mention visuals. I'll try to lean a bit more toward visual posts then.

I look at pictures and I say, "Nifty!". But actual text with stuff I can comment about tends to get comments. I've also been busy lately, and I tend to shy away from linkage while at work and video is a total loss.

I've noticed media, while enjoyed by the masses, tends to get less comments.

So more picture posts, less video links?
Phoenix Anew: phoenixphoenix_anew on January 30th, 2008 06:47 pm (UTC)
I had to look at other people's comments to remember what the icon post was. I actually had originally planned to comment on that one. Mostly something about how I thought it was great that someone else remembered that song besides me. But I guess maybe because the comment wasn't exactly icon-related and because I know nothing about BSG, I didn't post? Or I got distracted by whatever was around it on my friends list. That happens sometimes.

Honestly it's hard to say what makes me comment vs. what doesn't. I would guess its mostly related to how much the post is related to my interests/knowledge so that I have something to say, and whether I feel my comment would actually be constructive/something worth replying to.

Come to think of it I had a planned comment for your Scientology ytmnd post, but I didn't post that one mostly because I was busy being freaked out by the images. Still haven't gone back to the LOLcat related one, because all youtube links are blocked at work and I keep forgetting to check at home.

So mentioning fandom stuff is something that might get more comments?

you and I have discussed many times adding me for the icons yet I am not friended. I love your icons. Comments are difficult for me as I have said often, due to my using a PDA and having to load a page for every click.
I'll try harder.

I suck at that, I really do. Sorry about that.

And comments are not required by any means, I just like to know what people are interested in seeing.

Number of comments seems to be down all over the place in fandom, not just for icons, but for fics, meta, everywhere.

As to personal comments--I know I've been quiet. I'm sorry. I don't keep up with this journal as often as I should. :-\
Frittersfritters on February 2nd, 2008 09:07 pm (UTC)
I hadn't noticed the low comments elsewhere, but it's good to know. Just a busy month for people I guess.
