I dyed my hair again, and it turned out darker than it said even people with BLACK hair would have after using it! The last time this happened I felt hideous for MONTHS!!!

(and please don't tell me I'll be attractive anyways, because if I FEEL unattractive I'm still depressed horribly)

Well, how are we supposed to judge without PICTURES? Hmm?

...and why would I take pictures if I feel hideous??

Perhaps I'm just fishing for links to cheap hats... I dunno...

Guess your hair just sucks up dye...
...maybe you could use that to your advantage to fix this with another color?

The hair chickie your mom introduced me to said last time I shouldn't mess with it, because it was damaged, so I'm assuming it's pretty much the same boat again this time.

If you can't afford/don't want to pay salon prices; try looking for a cosmetology school to fix your color. We have several here in town and while, yes, they are students working on your hair, they are closely watched by trained professionals. It will take longer than a salon visit, but it won't cost nearly as much. They may have suggestions that you aren't aware of.

My girlfriend is a professional musician and she went not too long ago. They added nice highlights to her hair and she has a small section on the underside of her neck that is dyed dark red. It's quite fetching on her.

My best friend is a cosmetologist, so for quite awhile there I was her guinea pig. Cuts, color, styles, you name she tried it on me. One time, I had hair as bright red as Ronald McDonald's. I couldn't get it changed fast enough. I went straight home and put a box of dark brown over it. It ended up quite a nice shade of auburn in the end.

Last time this happened a professional hairstylist told me it was too damaged to mess with, so I was assuming it was the same thing again this time...

Ouch! Well, I don't know quite what to say - wash it often and expose your hair to the sun as much as you can(remember to wear lots of sunblock to protect your fair skin). It really gets you down when one's hair is messed up. Martin says you are returning to school next week - are you feeling self-conscious about that, considering your hair? I guess you do, but the first day will be the worst - and the days thereafter will be a lot easier in comparison. Again, I'm sorry you got unlucky. Here's a website I found that you may not have seen -

Yeah, one of my problems is that when it goes too dark it tends to be more of a blue-red than a warm red, and I look better in warm reds. I'm a little worried about school, but this semester is 4 weeks long and most people from class never stay in touch, so it's not a HUGE biggie. Yeah, the sunscreen thing is the main reason I'm not in the sun right now, I DESPISE sunscreen but need it pretty much anytime I'm outdoors. I carry a big Asian parasol anytime I'm outside usually.

I can't imagine you not being attractive, even if you were to shave the hair off of one whole side of your head and paint the other in purple and orange stripes.

(This is not a suggestion that you do so, even so.)

Okay, but you must admit there are ways for me to look LESS attractive, per your example...

Have you tried rinsing your hair with a bit of vinegar or lemon juice? Those might lighten your hair up a bit, and it's also good for your hair as well.

Also, I know this is going to sound gross, but try disolving a package of jell-o (or the cheap-ass equivalent) in a glass of warm water, and drinking. Do it about once a month. It will really help your hair and fingernails to strengthen. And like I said, I know it's gross, but it works.
Frittersfritters on July 5th, 2008 07:52 am (UTC)
Will that hurt my hair, the first bit? They're both acids. I might try it, though.

Wouldn't taking gelatin tablets be easier?

Still, good ideas.

What brand and color did you use? My hair is very dark and I'm always looking for a home dying kit that would actually show up in my hair...
Frittersfritters on July 7th, 2008 06:53 am (UTC)
Mine is medium-lightish. Or it WAS.

It was clairol balsam stuff. Box has green on it.

I feel so out of touch...and it has been only about a month....

I ALWAYS hate my hair for two weeks after I get a perm. I look like a freeken poodle. But then it relaxes and I feel ok again.

Personally I LOVE that color and used to put on a cellophane every two weeks to have it. Now they don't make the one that I used anymore, or actually, they converted to a peroxde formula which does not mix with a perm.

So how is it now? Red always fades really fast on me.

One tip I can give you is to always take the hair out of your brush and use it to test the color. I would let it build up for several days then I would untangle the clump and split it into several strands to test various times of application. You wrap a thin colored strand around your finger several times to get a better idea of how a larger strand looks, and make sure it is dry before you judge the color.
Frittersfritters on July 16th, 2008 04:15 pm (UTC)
That's a good idea.

Hey, where are you now?
