You probably already know this, but Haiti just had a 7.0 quake. While I know a 7.0 doesn't seem HUGE to most Californians, Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and has absolutely no building codes. According to AP, "in November 2008... the mayor of Port-au-Prince estimated about 60 percent of buildings were shoddily built and unsafe in normal circumstances."
SIXTY PERCENT. Unsafe under NORMAL circumstances... So a 7.0? Wow.
The Red Cross is planning to help and you can donate through that link there. Hint, hint.
EDIT: More info from amigoid
"Broncos linebacker Elvis Dumervil has 40-50 family members still on the island country, and is urging people who want to help to go to yele.org, the website set up by Haitian musician Wyclef Jean, to donate.
Two major texting lines have been set up for donations. You can text "Yele" to 501501 to donate $5 to Yele.org, or text "Haiti" to 90999 to donate $10 to the Red Cross' relief efforts.
The U.S. State Department Operations Center said Americans seeking information about family members in Haiti should call 1-888-407-4747. Due to heavy volume, some callers may receive a recording."
